I’m a first time home-buyer, I live in Indiana, USA, I’ve found a house I really like, I have 20% for a downpayment, I’ve been pre-approved for a loan. But the economy freaks me out. And it’ll take me close to a year before I’ve built up an emergency cash reserve, and in this Brave New World, there’s no such thing as job security. Someone, quick–make the decision for me. hi there, firstly thankyou to everyone who has answered my other questions regarding this.long story but please bear with me if you can…
basically we are (trying!) to buy a house from a couple who divorced three years ago. our offer was agreed in writing by both parties of the couple as was the contents.and these documents are with our solicitors. the very last completion papers have been signed by us, and the woman of the couple but the man is now refusing to sign. actually stating to my husband (who he keeps constantly ringing) that he hopes we pull out of the sale as he wants to cause the woman as much trouble as he can. i have a feeling hes trying to get us to pull out because he cant.as we have now found out that there is some kind of clause written in the divorce that if one or other of the couple tries to halt the sale of the house the other party of the couple can take them to court and he can be forced to sign by the judge. i think it is called a “forced” sale? the woman has now had to pay £800 to instruct her solicitor to take her ex husband back to court. can anyone please give me any advice (or any hope at all!) of where we stand in this situation ? or has anyone ever come across anything like this before.
we really love this house but are so upset by all this and dont know what to do for the best.our solicitor is struggling because he can never get any answers from the mans solicitors as hes not responding to any letters or phone calls!
any good advice please?

my daughter moved out and she is staying with friends,we have found a flat for her nearer to us.
she is at college would she be able to claim housing benefit?

My partner wants to end our relationship and sell our house. (2/3 of the property is in her name at her request at the start of our co-habitation because she has 2 adult offspring and I one from former relationships. We have been living together for 7+years)

A letter has been served to me by her solicitor saying she seeks the sale of the property and proceeds to be divided 2/1 thirds in her favour. I am warned she may invoke this Act for an Order for the sale of our house and I would bear the court cost.

Because of the origional reason for the 2/1 split in ownership and that we have basicly been on equal income and shared household expenses, and in our late 50s, we talked about drawing up an agreement for a more equal share. I sujested we do this with a solicitor, but she refused on account of cost, saying it could be witnessed by anyone. This took place 7/10 days before I recieved the letter, which is timescaled.

What can I do to effect a more equal share of proceeds.

i am 18, a college student, my parents told me to leave my house, i work a 13 hour job aswell as attending college, the amount i make isnt enough to cover the rent for a room i am currently renting. I want to claim housing benefit, i have the form what looks very foreign to me, alongside that, with my current details, will my claim be accepted…

I live in Delaware…anyone that lives nearby that can give advice based on facts for our area would be the most helpful..my concern is whether the timing is wrong or not. I seem to get different comments from different agents that I’ve been speaking to. I know I want to become an agent, but I need to be able to make money doing it. I am buying a place in glasgow was wondering what the solicitors fees typically tend to be.

I’m interviewing a guy and he is with a big name real estate company, but said about 20% of the time he sales the home acting as his own representative. Is this common or an indicator of a poor ethical decision?

We’re in the process of buying a house. As we are not using our mortage lender (Alliance & Leicester) as the insurer for the house, our solicitor has told us that we need find buildings insurance and “put it on risk” for when the contracts are exchanged.
What does this mean?
It says that a quote or renewal notice is not sufficient, it must be a policy schedule.
How can I buy insurance before I’ve bought the house?
I ideally want to buy my insurance online too.

been married 11 yrs,wife moved out 8 yrs ago,I got soul custody & she decided she wasn’t going to sign contract because she’s living w/ abuser & just had baby & i wont bring her there & she never calls up daughter.she flips out a lot & i just gave notice for leaving my job in summer & move to another state & now i’m stuck.she owes lots of credit cards that have to be paid by sale of house. i’m little slow & she’s taken total advantage of me for 11 yrs. i am a custodian for nyc schools & my bro in law (lawyer) won’t help me at all.Was told i will need seperate lawyer for making her sign contract to sell house, & divorce. i paid for divorce twice on agreeing few yrs ago & lost lots of money.if anyone can help me please let me no where I can find a great compassionate lawyer. i live in Levittown, ny

I want to keep my old address for the purposes of car insurance, credit rating etc etc, but I’ll be paying rent for a place in another London Borough – BUT, if my contract at work is suddenly terminated and I need to claim Housing Benefit, would I need to change my REGISTERED address to get it, or can I keep the old one too?

My fiance and myself are going to be first time home buyers. We are looking for a real estate agent that is going to be patient, extremely helpful, and honest. We will also look for someone that is willing to show and has access to numerous properties. We will especially appreciate someone with an upbeat, positive personality. Being first time buyers we are going to have a lot of questions and will be very picky, we would like someone that will not rush us into any hasty decisions just to make a quick sale. The estate agent also used to manage the letting of the flat but I’m not too happy with the asking selling price (20% below what a similar flat has sold). I am not in the country and I also need a sollicitor. What would be the best way to proceed?

I live in a flat on my own and have been claiming housing benefit for a few months. They sent me a letter saying someone from the housing is coming round to pay a visit. Why do they do this? Does this mean I am about to lose my housing? Also, what happens when they come round? Do they go in every room or is it just a chat?

Australian in London – how do I join agencies that can get me a job- I have a British passport so I don’t need a visa to work. I have been doing conveyancing in Qld and would like to work in that field – or anything in law (admin, secretary etc) if not anything in office – I want to do temping as I am going travelling in a few months time.

i have paid for a solicitor and paid for evaluation and set up fee’s for my mortgage, in total it is costing me £1,920. now they have told me they are selling to someone else for £10,000 more, they never signed to commit to a sale, but i did, all this after 2 months..
where do i stand on this legally, i am down £1,920 in fee’s and costs, is there anyway to recoup the costs?

Hi all… (UK law) a cherished relative passed away a year ago this october. Probate was granted very swifty. The sale of the house has gone through within a few months of this and everything I would have expected to pass without any problems. Unfortunately the two executors do not appear to see eye to eye. One has taken it upon herself to discredit the other one. It seems that she chooses to contest an expense of the other per letter to the solicitors (including questioning a nominal fee paid for a debt to the deceased’s Milkman!!). Other qibbles are larger (like the sale of the house, which ironically was sold for more than asking price). I am sure that this person is hell bent on using the funds (running total is in the 1000’s just for these letters) in the estate to just cause problems and settle some unkown family rift. Can i seek legal intervention to question/understand/bring to light her motives? Is more than a year unreasonable amount of time?

Does anyone know if there is any cover or guarantees if the solicitor runs off with every penny to my name.
